My name is Amy Marquez and I am excited to be back for my second year as librarian at North San Juan Elementary school.  Mrs. Garcia will be assisting me. Our goal for the school year is 50,000 AR points.  Please help us meet our goal by reading and testing.  Meet us for family time at the library the first Monday of each month from 3:15-4:30.

Library Announcements
3rd Six Weeks Book Club
Students in grades 3-5 are invited to read our book of the six weeks, Elijah of Buxton by Christopher Paul Curtis.

This book is 5.3 reading level.  Only students able to read at this level will be able to participate.  Please come by the library for more information.
Family Time at the Library 11/16/09
Please join us for family time at the library on Monday 11/16/09 from 3:15-4:30.  Come in and read with your child.

Tuesday- Hats off to reading
Wednesday- Sock it to reading
Thursday- Donuts with Dads PK-2 (library)

2nd Six Weeks Book Club Book

3rd-5th Grade are invited to participate in the Book Club for the 2nd Six Weeks.  The book is Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy.

Book Club Guidelines

1.  This book is 4.9 reading level.  You must be reading this level to borrow the book.

2.  You must read and test on this book for the first time by the end of the six weeks (10/30/09)

3.  Your AR test score on this book must be 70 or higher.

4.  Everyone who passes the AR test will be invited for a book club meeting held in November.

5.  A new book club book will be available during the 3rd, 4th and 5th six weeks.

6.  Only 40 people will be allowed to join the book club each six weeks, based on first come first served.

7. The book must be returned by the end of the six weeks.
 
8.  Ask Mrs. Marquez for details.

9,547 AR Points- 1st Six Weeks
Thank you to all our parents, teachers and students for working so hard and reading and testing.  At the end of the 1st six weeks, our campus had 9,547 points.  This is a dramatic increase from last year when we had only 4,124 points at the end of the 1st six weeks.

Please make sure to read carefully because all students must maintain a 70% average or higher to participate in AR incentives such as field trips or cafeteria parties.

Clown show for all summer readers!
All participants who turned in their BRIGHT summer reader log will be treated to a performance by Chuchin the clown on Wednesday 9/30/09 in the library.  Chuchin puts on an amazing show with magic tricks, juggling, unicycle riding and more.  Click on the picture below to learn more about Chuchin.
Bright Summer Reader Celebration
The Bright Summer Reader Celebration was held on 9/22/09 for the top readers in each grade level.  We got to see a performance by Chuchin the clown as well as enjoy snacks and prizes.

Bluebonnet Award Program
Students in grades 3-5 must read at least five books from the 2009-2010 Bluebonnet Award List (below).  Students must AR test on and pass at least 5 books from the list.  Participants will be invited to a party in January 2010 and receive a certificate of participation.

BRIGHT Summer Reading Program
Be sure to read, read, read this summer!  Remember to fill out your reading log.  You must read books that you have not read before and they must be on your reading level.  Extra forms are available at the school during June.  If you run out of forms you can make copies or write on a separate page. 

All forms due in August.

Students who read the most pages in each grade will receive a prize.
